Nominations are now open for the 2027 Young Irish Freight Forwarder of the Year Award. The competition acts as the selection process for Ireland’s Candidate for the annual FIATA global Young Logistics Professional Award (YLP). The winner of the Irish competition will be nominated by IIFA to represent Ireland in the 2027 FIATA YLP, showcasing Irish freight forwarding on an international stage.

We are delighted to have hosted one of our largest graduation events for the FIATA Diploma course this past Saturday, 19th September 2026. Over 80 assembled guests, across graduates, their families, employers and representatives of the IIFA Council gathered to celebrate the success of this latest group of Irish FIATA Diploma holders.

The Irish International Freight Association has a new President: Gerard Kiernan, National Sales Manager at a. hartrodt (Ireland) in Dublin, was elected in mid-June to lead the IIFA for a two-year term.

Following a successful pilot programme earlier this year, IIFA will continue with an asynchronous structure for the Autumn 2026 cohort. The Introduction to Freight Forwarding course delivers a light touch introduction to the industry, with Participants gaining an understanding how the industry works, how each section operates and how they then all connect.

On 27th May 2026, Vikram Nair of IIFA Full Trading Member RHENUS Air & Ocean Ltd, was recognised as the 2026 winner of the Young Irish Freight Forwarder of the Year competition.

16 Feight Forwarders attended City of Dublin FET College’s annual graduation, taking place on a gorgeously sunny day at the Mansion House in Dublin, on Monday 25th May 2026.

On Wednesday 22nd April, the IIFA tour of Port of Cork set sail down the River Lee. With 70 delegates in attendance, including IIFA members and students of the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship, the tour was part of Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Week.

On April 15th, the fifth tour of the Border Control Post at Dublin Port took place. It was attended by over 70 delegates from member companies of Irish International Freight Association, with stops at Terminal 9, the IUPT, Yards 3 & 4, Terminal 10, and Terminal 11. At the close of November 2025, Dublin Port shared notice of increased charges to be levied in early 2026. Laden containers/ Trailers will see an extra €15 charge, in addition to increases of 5% for unaccompanied units and 2% for RoRo units.

The 2025 IIFA FIATA Diploma Graduation ceremony took place on Saturday 6th September 2025 in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dublin Airport. Of 20 successful participants, 11 graduates were in attendance to receive their FIATA Diplomas from Irish International Freight Association.

David Macken, representing IIFA Full Trading Member Hawthorn Logistics Ltd, was presented with his trophy and was awarded the title of IIFA Young Irish Freight Forwarder of the Year for 2025. This competition is designed with two goals: to shine a spotlight on the good work of young professionals of the Irish Freight Forwarding industry and to act as a national competition to select a candidate to represent Ireland with the annual FIATA Young Logistics Professional competition.

At the 2025 IIFA Annual General Meeting, Irish International Freight Association had the honour of inducting Vincent Brennan as an Honorary Fellow of the Association; a category of IIFA membership which recognises the contribution of individuals to this Association or the Irish Freight Forwarding and Customs Brokerage Industry.

On May 7th, a group of over 70 delegates from member companies of Irish International Freight Association participated in a tour of the Border Control Post at Dublin Port. The itinerary for the day included stops at Terminal 11, Yards 3 and 4, Terminal 9 and Terminal 10. This was followed by a series of presentations from representatives of Revenue Customs, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s (DAFM), and the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Wednesday 2nd April 2025 saw Employees of IIFA Member business have opportunity to view Dublin Port from a unique angle, via the St. Brigid’s Boat as part of the 3rd Annual Logistics and Supply-Chain Skills week. Delivered across Monday 31st March – Saturday 5th April 2025, this week long event saw activities take place across the country to promote careers in Freight Forwarding and the wider Irish Supply-Chain industry.

For the fourth year in a row, IIFA will host a visit of Dublin Port Border Control Posts with Department Agriculture, Food and the Marine for IIFA Members. Taking place on Wednesday 7th May 2025, the purpose of this visit will be to tour BCP facilities at Dublin Port and to then engage with DAFM, Revenue Customs and HSE through a series of presentations, closing with a Q & A session.

As part of the 2025 Logistics & Supply-Chain Skills Week, Irish International Freight Association will host an event for Young Professionals in the industry, with a focus on growing your skillset and career on Wednesday 2nd April 2025.

Introduction to Freight Forwarding course enrolment now open for January 2025

As part of the 2025 Logistics & Supply-Chain Skills Week, Department of Transport will host an event aimed at Transition Year and University Students. The objective of the event is to promote careers across Freight Forwarding and the wider Supply-Chain industry and the Department are offering opportunity for Freight Forwarding and Customs Brokerage Employers to take part.
